Analysability — is the sense in the form?

the active layer →

Every observation carries a Motivation–Analysability level: how much of a form's sense is borne by the form itself, graded M0 arbitrary (etymological only) → M1 idiomaticM2 part-motivatedM3 motivatedM4 compositional (fully analysable). It is scored independently on the English and Vietnamese sides. This is a separate axis from realisation: it asks whether the form carries the sense, not whether it maps across the languages.

Motivation profile

The paired EN×VI profile of each observation — whether both sides, one side, or neither carries the sense compositionally.

Analysability (motivation) and realisation are orthogonal. A form can map cleanly yet be arbitrary (high realisation, low M-level), or be richly compositional on one side while its counterpart is merely idiomatic. The levels above count observations whose sense is actually in the form — M0 arbitrary through M4 fully compositional — read separately for English and Vietnamese.
