One morpheme, rippling across its family.

← the explorer

Search or pick a morpheme and watch its family spread, in either direction — the two are equivalent, you are just choosing which to read. Each stream's width is the weighted support and its colour the fit category; below, the word family shows the real words behind each mapping — the English headword and its actual Vietnamese rendering, with the mapped morpheme highlighted. Instances where the morpheme's sense is extrinsic (idiomatic / arbitrary, not borne by the form) are tagged, and the motivated-vs-extrinsic proportion is shown next to volatility.

Every correspondence here is a verified mapping (fit, sense split or sibling). Vietnamese targets span two registers — Sino-Vietnamese (Han-Viet, a calque) and native Vietic — so a target need not carry a Han tu. The motivation bar splits the morpheme's instances into motivated (the sense is borne by the form) and extrinsic (idiomatic / arbitrary, e.g. bug in debug); reading it against volatility shows how much apparent volatility is genuine polysemy versus idiomatic noise. The mapping is bidirectional — either direction reads the same ledger. Drawn live from the English–Vietnamese Analytical Mapping database. See also the explorer, the signatures, and the metrics.
